III. Important Precautions and Safety Information

Stop using the earphones if they cause discomfort, irritation or dizziness. Continued use may damage your ear skin and cause rash or inflammation.

If the ear tip becomes lodged in your ear, do not try to remove it yourself. If visible, have someone other than yourself remove it. If not visible, seek skilled medical assistance to remove the ear tip from the ear canal.

Store the earphone ear tips in a safe place where children or pets cannot reach them to avoid the risk of a possible accident or hazard such as swallowing them.

When earphones are in use you may hear friction noise caused by the cord rubbing against your clothing while moving your body or head. This is not part of the iHEARtest and you should not respond to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I take the iHEARtest™?

Hearing loss is the third most common physical condition behind arthritis and heart disease, affecting people of all ages, reports the Hearing Loss Association of America. Most often, hearing loss is gradual. Usually, it takes the intervention of a spouse or loved one to convince people with hearing loss to get their hearing evaluated.

Furthermore, the future of screening diagnostics is being driven by consumers who want to take many routine assessments in the privacy of their home. It’s now recommended that adults over the age of 40 years old screen their hearing annually. With the iHEARtest™ we’re making it easy and accessible for people to incorporate this into their wellness routine because it gives you instant access to check your own hearing from the comfort of your home.

Why are the sounds either coming from the wrong earphone side or there are no sounds coming out?

The 3.5 mm earphone audio plug may not be completely inserted into the iHEARusb™. Ensure that you have firmly inserted the earphone audio plug into the iHEARusb™ jack, and the iHEARusb™ inserted securely to the computer. Ensure that the Left (black) earphone is inserted in your left ear and the Right (red) is inserted in your right ear.

Do I need to check the calibration of the iHEARtest™ every time before I take the hearing screening?

No, there is no need to run a calibration check before you do the home hearing screening. Each iHEARtest™ kit is calibrated before it is shipped. The software will automatically ask you to perform a calibration check after 10 hearing screenings.

You can get bad calibration results if the calibration check is performed in a noisy room or if there is too much vibration like, for example, if there are traffic noise vibrations from people walking in the room, etc. If you need to perform a calibration check, it must be done in a quiet room with the device preferably placed on a non-hard surface.

My calibration check has failed. What do I need to do?

The calibration check may not pass under certain conditions:

  1. There is too much noise in the room. For example, when there is traffic noise, vibrations from people walking around, etc. The calibration check must be done in a quiet room and the device placed on a soft surface. For example, do not put it on a table. Use a soft pad if you are running into bad calibration.
  2. The earphone nozzle may not have been properly inserted into the calibration cavity. Please insert the nozzle fully into the calibration cavity.

Do I need to download a software application to run the iHEARtest™?

Yes, you will need to download the iHEARtest™ online software application, which is available through your iHEAR Account. Your iHEARtest™ order will include a Quick Install Guide to guide you through the process.

5 hearing screening credits are included for either up to five users, for yourself, a family member or friend. Additional single use hearing screening credits may be purchased by ordering online.
